Pueblo CO Real Estate

Situated at the confluence of the Arkansas River and Fountain Creek, Pueblo, Colorado is approximately 100 miles south of Denver. Considered a semi-arid area, which receives about 14 inches of rainfall annually, its prime location in the “banana belt” (an informal geographic term describing an area which enjoys warmer weather than the region as a whole) causes Pueblo to get less snow than other major cities in the state of Colorado.

One of the largest steel-producing cities in the United States, Pueblo is often referred to as “Steel City”. Pueblo has several other monikers as well. It is often called “Second City” because until 1960, Pueblo, Colorado was the second largest city in the state. It was also known as the home of heroes because four of its residents received the Medal of Honor. Pueblo, Colorado is the hometown of 19th-century writer, Damon Runyon, and to Dutch Clark, who was the first man from Colorado to ever be inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame. Pueblo's largest football stadium is named after him.

Pueblo CO real estate figures indicate that as of June, 2010, the average estimated price of a home was $111,228, which is down 0.04% since May of 2010, and the median sales price was $103,500. The average listing price was about $169,200 for the week ending Jul 21, 2010. Pueblo Colorado real estate data reports that the average price per square foot was $75.00, an increase of 1.4% compared to last year.

The history of Pueblo dates back to 1842, when a plaza or fort named El Pueblo was built by the efforts of early trappers and traders, most notably George Simpson and Mathew Kinkead. Adobe structures were originally constructed with the intention of becoming a trading post settlement next to the Arkansas River which then formed the border between the US and Mexico.

Pueblo was home to some prominent early Colorado families, including the Thatchers, Ormans and Adams. Before the Great Flood of 1921, Pueblo had still another moniker; “the saddle making capitol of the world.” About one-third of Pueblo’s businesses were lost in this disastrous flood and to this day the city is still recuperating and experiencing a resurgence in growth and industry.

Today Pueblo, Colorado is home to the single largest event in the entire state; namely, the Colorado State Fair, held annually in late summer. It can also boast that it is the site of the largest parade in the state, (the state fair parade) as well as an annual Chili Festival.

The city of Pueblo also provides a very green environment with some of its spectacular efforts to reduce energy and street lighting costs, which total an average of $1.7 million. Joined with Black Hills Energy, the two forces are dedicated to reduce greenhouse emissions by providing better lighting for the city’s many roadways. This important pilot project involves replacing conventional streetlights with LED fixtures. Already, ten have been installed along Bonforte Boulevard.

There can be no question that Pueblo CO has had a distinctive and noble past and an even more prominent eye on its future, which promises a superb quality of life in a sustainable environment for all of its residents.
